I grew up in Upstate New York, very close to the Corning Museum of Glass. From the very first time I stepped foot in that amazing museum, I was hooked on the fabulous timeless and archival qualities of glass. I visited the museum frequently as a child to the point that certain glass exhibits became familiar as old friends.
In the early 80’s, I started making stained glass window catchers and window installations. I sold just about everything I ever made in a Corning New York stained glass store. I loved working with stained glass and the beautiful, hand-rolled textured sheet glass.
When I moved to Florida in 1989, I was inspired to expand my skills and learn the craft of fusing glass in a hot brick kiln. Glass kiln work allowed me to no longer be confined to the limits of leaded stained glass. I could now join cut pieces of glass together with heat instead of copper foil and lead. To enhance my designs, I purchased a small torch, and then a bigger torch and then went back to the Studio at the Corning Museum of glass and took classes that helped me shape my technique and skill set. I now incorporate glass that I form in the flame into my kiln-formed works of art.
My official business name is Fish Lips Diversified. You may ask what’s the connection? I love all things wild in the natural environment. Many of my original designs are underwater-themed with a focus on fish with big lips. I like to put a little fun and tropical whimsicality into my designs with a strong focus on wildlife. You will see this through out my work.
My kiln-formed glass work is exclusively made with Bullseye Glass which is made in Portland Oregon. I love the exquisite color and quality of the Bullseye Glass. I work independently to create my own designs and many have taken much trial and error to perfect. Each piece is formed with time, patience, chemistry, physics and a little math. Glass is timeless and will last longer than our lifetimes. If it is well cared for, it will last for generations.
I work to make sure my pieces are of quality, annealed properly and edges are polished when necessary to make each piece not only unique in beauty, but functional and durable. Custom work is always an option. I am happy to take on the challenge. Please feel free to contact me with your specific request. Prices on the website include shipping.
